The Connecticut Residence, located in Litchfield County, Connecticut, was originally a carriage house designed by 19th-century architect Ehrick Rossiter. It was transformed with great effort by interior designer Clive Lonstein. As the second collaboration between Lonstein and the homeowner, this project not only maintained his keen control over materials, colors and spatial rhythm, but also further responded to the homeowners dual demands for art display and high-quality living.

Langsteins design philosophy was deeply influenced by his early experiences in the fashion industry. He has collaborated with brands such as Tom Ford, Gucci, YSL, and Tiffany - Co. This experience endowed him with a unique visual narrative ability and a keen insight into tactile experiences. In Connecticut Residence, this perception is skillfully transformed into the delicate expression of the living space: The entire residence is inspired by an English country mansion, and each room has its own distinct color language, yet through subtle details, the coherence and layering of the space are achieved.

The story of the space begins in the kitchen, where the bold pastel tones set a spacious and confident tone. As it extends to the living room and dining area, Pierre Freys salmon pink curtains soften the light, moderately reducing the saturation of the colors, allowing the homeowners art collection to naturally become the visual focal point. Particularly striking is a table in Yves Klein Blue, which complements Nan Goldins photography works and Oscar Niemeyers Rio recliner, together forming a strong and exquisite set of furnishings. All of this was accomplished under the planning of art consultant Bridget Murphy.

The library that Langstein particularly loves is decorated with Benjamin Moores Liberty Park green wall covering, creating a calm yet not heavy atmosphere. The colors here exhibit a close and fresh quality, making the space both stable and suitable for reading, while also retaining a modern lightness. The entire residence presents a harmonious and tense posture in the dialogue between history and contemporary design, respecting the original appearance of the building while also demonstrating Langsteins mature control over materials, colors, and the continuity of space, shaping a living experience that combines individuality and a sense of the times.
