George Steiner begins Tolstoy or Dostoevsky with this declaration: Literary criticism should spring from a sense of gratitude toward literature. He immediately adds: Compared to the day we opened the book, our minds and bodies have changed by the time we close it. I believe this statement entirely avoids the accusation of pedantry, for it perfectly captures the feeling of being immersed in this space.

For me, spatial design stems from observing and pursuing life itself. It should embody and express the inner world of its inhabitants. Thats why I participated in every step of this spaces design and construction from start to finish. Undoubtedly, from imagining the blueprints at the outset to witnessing everything materialize before my eyes, I felt as though I had embarked on a journey of the soul. Ive tried to articulate the wonder this spatial creation evokes in me, only to discover that languages ability to distill, categorize, and summarize excels when describing a flawless modern artifact. Yet when confronted with a non-standard work that folds together the sediment of time, family memories, and emotions, perhaps language should step back. Intuitive feeling and experience are the true solutions.

the residential section within the andwithen gallery space. These two spaces are actually presented sequentially on the same floor plan. Compared to standardized residential units, the open-plan layout offers greater freedom. The spatial arrangement can be entirely tailored to personal preferences and functional needs, embodying the concept of integrated living and working.

乔治·斯坦纳在《托尔斯泰或陀思妥耶夫斯基》一书开宗明义：“文学批评应该出自对文学的回报之情。”他紧接着又说：“与开卷之日相比，我们的身心在掩卷之余出现了变化。”我想，这完全可以避免“掉书袋”之讥，因为我用以形容置身这一空间的感受，实在是贴合不过。

对我而言，空间设计出自对生活的观察与追索，应当是居住者内心世界的一种物化与表达，是以我由始至终参与了这个空间的设计与建造的全过程，而毫无疑问，从一开始面对图纸的想象，到最终一切呈现眼前，我仿佛经历了某种心灵之旅。我试图用言语表述这一空间作品带给我的惊喜，总是发现，语言所拥有的提炼、归纳、总结的功能在描绘一个精美无瑕的现代工艺品时表现优异，但当面对一个折叠了时间的沉淀、家庭的记忆与情感的非标作品时，语言或许应当退后，直观的感受与体验才是真正的解方。

In this project, the traditional living room concept was omitted because Mr. Xies study and the andwithen gallery serve as the public leisure and reception areas. Consequently, only two bedrooms, a maids room, and an open kitchen-dining space were retained.

Two steps lead to the bedroom area, where an oversized off-center door opens. Custom-made aluminum handles, specially crafted for the homeowners, retain a distinctive warmth even in the coldest winter days. Each touch feels like a silent conversation with the door itself.

The master bedroom layout incorporates dual circulation paths to accommodate the distinct daily routines of both occupants. The bathroom and nearly 12-meter-long walk-in closet occupy over half the master suites space, fulfilling the unique needs of the female homeowner as a fashion creative. This represents the most significant shift in contemporary lifestyles for specialized professions—traditional wardrobe capacities are utterly inadequate for modern living. This presents fresh design considerations and challenges.

我们在前篇章andwithen gallery空间里提到了本项目住宅部分的延续，两个空间其实是在同一平面先后呈现，相对于纯住宅标准化单元，大平层平面更加自由。完全可以由自己的喜好及功能需求考虑空间布置，而职住一体的生活方式在这里具象化

传统意义上客厅在本次项目并未出现，是因为谢先生的「与书房」及andwithen gallery充当了公共休闲及接待功能，因此只保留了两间卧室、家政间及开放的餐厨功能

通往卧室区域以两级台阶，一扇超大偏轴门打开，特意为业主定制了一套铝制把手，在寒冷的冬日里，依然保持着一种独特的温暖。每一次触摸，都像是与它进行了一次无声的对话。

主卧平面考虑双动线，满足男女主人不同的生活习惯路径。卫浴及近12米长衣帽间占据了整个主卧一半以上的空间，满足了女主人作为服装创意工作者的独特需求，我想这也是当下特殊人群生活场景的最大变化，传统意义上的衣帽容量已完全不能满足现有生活的容器。这也给我们设计带来新的思考及挑战。

时间折叠，经典永续

In the design philosophy of Shuidingji, time does not flow linearly but can be folded and reshaped. To minimize urban noise and the glare from the expansive glass windows of the open-plan apartment, solid wood blinds were added behind the curtain wall glass. Sipping morning coffee by the window, bathed in the shifting light and shadow cast by the folded blinds, time seems to stand still—a moment suspended in space. We seamlessly integrate the gallery with the living area, using a long corridor to fold out two distinct functions while maintaining a parallel connection. Time flows freely between work and life, shifting scenes through doors of varying textures. A deliberately preserved old wooden beam with historical character sits at the dining-rest area corner, emotionally linking the gallerys spirit. We firmly believe classic design endures timelessly.

在水丁集的设计思考中，时间并非线性流逝，而是可以被折叠、被重塑。为最大限度降低城市噪音及大平层超大玻璃的强光影响，幕墙玻璃内选择增加实木百叶窗。清晨一杯咖啡，坐在窗前被百叶折叠的光影，时光穿梭，仿佛这一刻时间是静止的。我们将gallery与生活区巧妙融合，通过长廊折叠出两个不同的功能，但同时平行一个载体。时间在工作和生活之间自由流动，并在不同质感的门之间装换场景。餐厅休息转角处特意留了一根具有历史质感的旧木梁，情感上链接了gallery的精神，我们一直坚信经典的设计可以历久弥新

我们摒弃浮华，追求历久弥新的质感。选择黑灰色松木皮的强质感组合，以及米灰色、灰紫色肌理涂料的质朴，紫铜的冷峻，定制的草灰绿手工砖、铝门把手等，不同材质间碰撞，营造出丰富视觉感受及触感，也是水丁集对材料学的又一次实践。软装上选择经典家具，少而精的原则，与业主精心挑选中古时期、以及当代设计等，并且我们为这次项目原创设计汉白玉餐桌，灵感来自中国古代白瓷器皿的朴素之型，与收藏的白色中古椅曲线呼应融合。

功能是设计的基石。在这个平行空间里，每个角落都被赋予实用价值。超大容量隐藏式收纳空间、可移动隔断门、多功能餐边柜，卧室

。在公共区域可以隐约看到玻璃砖为墙的半通透衣帽间盒子，当夜幕灯光缓起，好似微小建筑的立面呈现。

家，是生活的容器，也是精神的居所。一杯咖啡，一本书，一段音乐，都是生活况味的体现，也是对自我内心的探索。并且我们第二次将“职住一体”的理念融入其中，打造一个既能激发灵感，又能抚慰心灵的私密空间。

水丁集以生活之名，打造时间折叠处，经典永流传的创意工作者之家。这里，承载着主人对生活的热爱，对艺术的追求，以及对自我价值的无限探索。

We eschew ostentation in favor of timeless, enduring textures. The robust combination of black-gray pine veneer, the rustic simplicity of beige-gray and gray-purple textured coatings, the cool austerity of copper, and custom-made grass-ash green handmade tiles and aluminum door handles—the interplay of these diverse materials creates a rich visual and tactile experience, marking yet another exploration of material science by Shuidingshi. For soft furnishings, we adhere to the principle of fewer, but finer with classic furniture selections. These complement the owners carefully curated pieces from the mid-century era and contemporary designs. For this project, we also created an original white marble dining table. Inspired by the simple forms of ancient Chinese white porcelain vessels, its design harmoniously echoes the curves of the owners white mid-century chairs.

Functionality is the cornerstone of design. In this parallel space, every corner is imbued with practical value. Features include oversized concealed storage, movable partition doors, a multifunctional sideboard, a bedroom mini-bar cabinet, and a massive 10-meter-long walk-in closet. In the communal area, a semi-translucent wardrobe box with glass brick walls becomes faintly visible. As nightfall brings gentle illumination, its facade emerges like a miniature architectural structure.

Home is both the vessel of life and the sanctuary of the spirit. A cup of coffee, a book, a piece of music—each embodies the essence of life and serves as a journey into ones inner self. For the second time, weve woven the concept of integrated living and working into this space, crafting a private sanctuary that sparks inspiration and soothes the soul.

Shuidingshi, in the name of life, crafts a sanctuary where time folds—a timeless haven for creative minds. Here, the owners passion for life, pursuit of art, and endless exploration of self-worth find their home.
