This building is a study of how to introduce light and air in to an apartment building in one of Australia’s densest urban environments. Located in an inconsistent streetscape, this building seeks to define the street edge with the delicate and crystalline forms of the glass screens. The wall of translucent glass serves as a privacy screen for residents and catches the reflections of the water, clouds and sky and brings these elements to the narrow street.

The base responds to the tough urban context by utilising the materiality of the nearby wharves. On the upper levels glass screens, off-form concrete and crisp steel detailing create a building that is modern and light. When viewed from Woolloomooloo, the operable solar screens change throughout the day evoking the form of billowing sails.
The living areas of the eight whole-floor apartments take advantage of views to the city skyline to the west. Wide balconies adjacent provide sun protection to the internal areas. On the southern and northern side small balconies are fitted with translucent glass privacy screens. These fixed screens are angled for to provide views to the city skyline to the west while providing privacy to interior spaces.
