The Pereira Narvaes house is located in Caxias, a mountainous region of southern Brazil. After the visit to the site of the project, it became evident the existence of an incredible view towards a “green wall”, a mountain with an almost vertical slope that would direct the project. Responding to the desire of customers who wanted a contemporary home that represented the personality of the family the result was a design of straight and functional lines and the use of concrete, brick, iron and glass.

The house contrasts with all the surrounding nature while frames and leads to the surrounding landscape to the interior of the house. There is a constant interrelation of contrasts: density and space, concrete and nature, light and shadow – this fact is reinforced by the pure geometry that throw the large number of windows and the concrete box that floats on the southern façade. Almost all the openings in the house – even the service area – are in the north façade, taking full advantage of mountain views while providing excellent light and ventilation.

The residence is in an exempt site. It limits to the south with the access road and to the north by a small water course. The sound of water is also present all the time.

The Pereira Narvaes house is composed by 3 blocks. The intimate and the social – parallel and at different levels – and the vertical block of vertical circulation, which unites them. The U-shaped organization then generates an inner courtyard that complements the service area, but is mainly used as a complement to the social area. To get this, the access door leading to the bedrooms also leads to the office, which is integrated into a living room with access to a terrace and a green roof.

The intimate area of the access corridor is illuminated by an opening that is cut near to the floor, which also ensures residents’ privacy. In the social area, the living room, dining room and kitchen are integrated. The area of the grill is separated by the kitchen furniture. There are no interior partitions, on this way, this solution generates amplitude and putting in value the concrete. The use of a sliding door system allows one to enjoy the stunning landscape.
