The project aims to replace the existing old court building in Amsterdam. This eye-catching and functional court building was completed under the commission of the Central Government Real Estate Bureau. The newly completed court contains 50 different courts, with more than 1,000 functional personnel including 200 judges working here, and it is expected that more than 140,000 cases will be accepted each year.
该组织包括了Macquarie Capital, ABT, DVP, KAAN Architecten以及Heijmans and Facilicom。
The newly built Amsterdam Court is also the largest of the 11 court buildings in the Netherlands. The project was completed with the support of an organization called the New Amsterdam Court (NACH). The organization includes Macquarie Capital, ABT, DVP, KAAN Architecten and Heijmans and Facilicom. The entire organization and the government have maintained a management and operation model called government-private partnership (PPP).
Under the cooperation of the PPP model, the New Amsterdam Court of Justice (NACH) organization has the right to manage and operate the building for 30 years. Among them, Heijmans and Facilicom are mainly responsible for the operation of various service matters of the court, including the food safety and health of the internal canteen, the maintenance of various infrastructure facilities, and the daily cleaning and cleaning of the internal space.
As one of the original members of the NACH organization, KAAN Architecten was responsible for the architectural design and construction of the project. The architect hopes to integrate the concept of rule of law and legal regulations into peoples daily life through design techniques. Therefore, this 50-meter-high court building adopts a simple and open space language. The huge window facing the street allows the scene inside to be seen by pedestrians on the street. The front office space around the court provides a space basis for the stay of visitors. This newly built court building can receive 800 to 1,000 visitors in one day. The atrium of the court is the escalator space required for the internal traffic flow.
The atrium is also close to the inner courtyard, thus enjoying better lighting and ventilation. The architect hopes to achieve a comfortable and practical architectural design through reasonable layout design. The architect integrated the corresponding functional spaces in accordance with the common working procedures of case trials, and separated these space collections from the unrelated remaining spaces to achieve an efficient and reasonable spatial organization relationship. At the same time, the architect also maintained a high degree of communication and cooperation with construction consultants, fire safety consultants, contractors and suppliers during the project to build an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient court building.
The architect hopes to create a safe, comfortable and inspiring interior space, and allow these construction materials to fully reflect their respective values and aesthetics. The architect also designed a south-facing civic square for the project to achieve a reasonable transition from the building to the urban space.
The architect chose the same bright gray paving and seating design as the interior of the court. The elegant ceiling at the entrance also extends inward, connecting the inner and outer spaces of the court together. At the same time, the architect also adopted a low-slope plaza design language to minimize the sense of separation between the urban space, the civic plaza and the internal environment of the court.
The planting of vegetation on the side of the square also provides a place to rest for the court staff and visiting citizens, and allows other citizens in the neighborhood where the court is located to feel the climate change throughout the year.
Next to the huge pool in the square is an outdoor sculpture called Love or Generosity made by artist Nicole Eisenman. The sculpture is about 5 meters high and shows the image of a door guard wearing hiking boots. At the same time, the sculptures hands are also engraved with pictorial symbols that symbolize wisdom, strength, patience, progress and courage. In addition, there are sculptures of little owls, arrows and acorns that symbolize social resilience.
