Based in Shanghai, Tom Yu Studio is an architecture and design practice renowned for creating exceptional spaces which are unmistakably rooted in China, and yet which stand apart from China’s immense building ambitions. We focus on carefully and deliberately crafting our projects to ensure that our unique designs captivate our senses, transform the way we use space and generate more positive social experiences.

该项目位于上海市中心，为这座城市提供了一个难得的、急需的平静时刻。该地块是一块未被充分利用的土地，独特地夹在一栋三层商业建筑、传统里弄房屋和上海展览中心之间，这是一座新古典主义的俄罗斯建筑，坐落在大型商业塔楼对面。

Nestled in the heart of shanghai, the project offers a rare and much needed moment of calm in the city. The site is an underused parcel of land, uniquely wedged between a three storey commercial building, traditional lane houses and the Shanghai Exhibition Centre – a neo-classical Russian building, whilst sitting opposite large commercial towers.

As a garden and restaurant, the project carefully mediates and draws from its surrounding context. Mindful of striking the right balance within such varying settings, the project carefully weaves and unifies old and new elements, frames views and creates openness.

On entering the garden, the roar of the city disappears and calmness settles in. We regain a sense of awareness. The courtyard is planted with an array of mature fruit trees, rare herbs and flowering species, providing shade and fresh ingredients for the kitchen.

Huma位于静安嘉里中心的办公大厅，是一家新开的小酒馆，专注于现代云南美食，以及我们与Bloom餐厅的最新合作

Situated in the office lobby of the Kerry Center in Jing An, Huma is a new bistro focused on modern Yunnan cuisine and our latest collaboration with the restauranteurs of Bloom.

Given the vastness and busyness of the site, our natural instinct was to enclose the restaurant to offer an intimate and calm environment, while maintaining connectivity to its surroundings. As an independent volume, the bistro is defined by a quiet rectilinear shell, carefully proportioned and inserted into place.
