Nestled in Los Angeles San Fernando Valley (locally known as "The Valley"), the Chalk Hill residence redefines the modern interpretation of ancestral homes. While traditional notions associate such homes with European manors or Oriental courtyards, Studio MUKA founders Zabie Mustafa and Neda Kakhsaz believe true ancestral homes are defined by their embodiment of family memories and cultural heritage. Faced with this emotionally charged space, the duo chose to root themselves here rather than relocate to LAs Eastside, revitalizing the structure through thoughtful design.
The homes design philosophy masterfully blends historical legacy with contemporary innovation, integrating Iranian and Uzbek cultural essence into modern spaces. Rejecting superficial reproductions of traditional elements, the designers delve deep into cultural significance, reinterpreting Eastern aesthetics through inventive approaches. They preserve the spiritual core of cultural rituals while giving them contemporary expression, resulting in a unique space that honors heritage while embracing modernity.

This evolving creative space achieves perfect harmony between architecture and nature, tradition and innovation.
