Andrew, a film producer known for works like "State of Play" and "Millions," also owns the Chicago Fire Soccer Club. The couple actively supports educational initiatives such as "City Year." Their family boasts a profound artistic heritage. During their stay in London in the 1990s, they met architect John Pawson and commissioned him to design the interiors of their townhouse, subsequently becoming deeply influenced by Pawsons minimalist philosophy.

This 20,000-square-foot Los Angeles residence perfectly embodies the Hauptmans pursuit of familial intimacy. John Pawson, a contemporary architectural purist, created this project with his signature restrained aesthetic. Jonathan Bell handled the landscape design, while Alexandra and Michael Misczynski of Atelier AM assisted with interior decoration. The completed home not only meets the familys living needs but also stands as a quintessential Pawson architectural masterpiece.

Perched on a Los Angeles hillside, the residence features two horizontally stacked volumes. The lower volume, clad in pale Halila limestone, blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. The upper volume, finished with stucco and vertical red cedar paneling, appears to float effortlessly. This material contrast accentuates the architectural hierarchy. The cantilevered upper level not only offers expansive Pacific Ocean views but also creates airy spatial experiences below, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor areas.

The homes spatial layout is meticulously planned. The ground floors public areas—kitchen, living room, dining room, and study—radiate from a central staircase in an open-plan design without doors. The upper level contains four bedrooms, three with terraces, while the master bathroom features a whirlpool tub and fire pit. To maintain architectural harmony with the environment, Pawson positioned functional spaces like mechanical rooms, storage, staff quarters, childrens playroom, and screening room underground. The home exemplifies minimalist principles, with all hinges, switches, and baseboards cleverly concealed.

In the living room, a low table designed by Pawson pairs elegantly with Borge Mogensen leather chairs, complemented by a custom sofa upholstered in Loro Piana linen-cashmere blend. Outside, the living room terrace features red cedar lattice railings whose natural grain and hue radiate warmth in sunlight.

The double-height dining room feels spacious and luminous. Cove lighting by Isometrix subtly illuminates the custom dining table and adjacent staircase. Both table and chairs were specially commissioned, while random-width oak flooring throughout adds organic texture.

The master bedroom demonstrates meticulous detailing. A Eugene Printz writing desk from Galerie Dutko sits by the window. Atelier AM commissioned a Sam Kasten handwoven mohair rug and seamless 15-foot-wide gold silk wall covering. Kasten also crafted the headboard fabric, pillows, and wall textiles, while Rogers - Goffigon wool drapes complete the elegant retreat.
