The Poznan Grunwald House is located in the historical district of Grunwald, Poznan. It is an interwar villa meticulously restored by LBWA Studio. The building is located near the Abyssinia estate and is a modernist relic under the national building regulations of the 1930s. With its simple geometric forms, precise proportions and completely de-decorated facade, it presents the rational spirit of that era. How to transform the building into a contemporary family residence while preserving its original appearance has become the primary challenge faced by the design team.

The villa was severely aged before its restoration. The new owner hopes to restore the comfort and functionality of daily life while preserving its historical texture. LBWA Studio adopts an integrated design approach, conducting an integrated conception from architecture to interior, achieving a balance between protection and renewal in terms of light, materials and spatial logic. The original wooden Windows, doors and floors were meticulously restored, while the newly added parts were integrated into the original structure in a restrained minimalist language, creating a gentle and coherent spatial dialogue.

The entire residential building is now divided into two independent units. One of them is for the owners own residence, occupying the first and second floors, with an area of approximately 220 square meters. The main entrance is located on the north side, leading to the living floor that has been reorganized with light and orientation as the core. The limestone-clad bathroom and wardrobe serve as a circulation hub, while the kitchen on the east side connects to a small balcony, becoming a daily corner in the morning light. The stone island in the center of the kitchen echoes the historical ornaments of the original building with its warm beige and copper details. The living room and dining room form a transparent and integrated space. The floor-to-ceiling Windows facing the west garden frame the view of mature trees. The furniture is arranged light and airy, and artworks by Marek Okrasa are hung on the wall.

Climbing up to the second floor, the staircase is illuminated by the color paintings of Gabi Buzek. The master bedroom faces the garden and is equipped with an independent wardrobe and bathroom. The bathtub, limestone shower area and original wooden floor together form a balance of temperature and texture. The childrens bedroom and bathroom are decorated with a combination of green marble, oak and terrazzo, exuding a youthful and natural atmosphere. The furniture in the entire house is a combination of restored antiques and custom-made works, complemented by the owners collection of artworks. The color tones are restrained, mainly featuring warm white, sandy beige and grey stone, making light and proportion the main characters of the space. In this villa, LBWA Studio continues the spiritual core of modernism with contemporary design language, endowing it with a new rhythm of life and architectural life.
