This residence on Bellevue Hill in Sydney is a contemporary home that strikes a delicate balance between family life and classic aesthetics. The homeowners, Steffanie Tzaneros and her husband Michael, have three young children but still firmly chose a space tone dominated by white and light colors. This seemingly bold decision was ultimately transformed into an overall design that is both durable, warm to the touch, and elegant in its order under the coordination of interior architect Phoebe Nicol.

原有建筑虽具古典比例与细部潜力，却缺乏鲜明个性。设计介入的核心并非装饰叠加，而是空间结构的重组。通过拆除割裂空间的墙体，并引入拱形开口与玻璃双门，公共区域在视觉与动线上实现了连贯流动，既可彼此区隔，又保持通透联系。为弥补不可拆除的厚重横梁，菲比在局部加入新线脚与格槽式天花，使结构劣势反而成为强化古典气质的设计语言。

Although the original building had classical proportions and potential in details, it lacked a distinct personality. The core of the design intervention was not the addition of decorative elements, but the reorganization of the spatial structure. By removing the walls that fragmented the space and introducing arched openings and double glass doors, the public areas achieved a continuous flow both visually and in terms of circulation, allowing for separation while maintaining transparency. To compensate for the heavy beams that could not be removed, Phoebe added new moldings and grooved ceilings in some areas, turning the structural disadvantage into a design language that enhanced the classical atmosphere.

厨房是住宅的情感与功能中心。一座尺寸达3.5米乘2.5米的中岛，由多块卡拉卡塔大理石（Calacatta Oro）与欧洲橡木构成，更像一件家具而非传统橱柜，回应了屋主热衷宴客与烹饪的生活方式。整体风格受到屋主多年旅居海外经历的影响，从纽约、意大利到希腊，最终凝练为一种欧洲建筑语汇与地中海松弛气息交织的空间气质，仿佛南法别墅的当代表达。

The kitchen is the emotional and functional heart of the residence. A mid-island measuring 3.5 meters by 2.5 meters is constructed from multiple pieces of Calacatta Oro marble and European oak, more resembling a piece of furniture than a traditional cabinet. It reflects the lifestyle of the homeowner, who is passionate about hosting guests and cooking. The overall style is influenced by the homeowners years of living abroad, from New York, Italy to Greece, and ultimately crystallizes into a spatial temperament that combines European architectural vocabulary and the relaxed atmosphere of the Mediterranean, resembling the contemporary expression of a southern French villa.

在私密空间中，设计同样强调层次与成长性。主卧以锻铁床架、洞石与穆拉诺灯饰营造克制而安定的氛围；女儿房则以柔和粉色回应童年想象，同时预留未来变化的可能。整座住宅并非追求视觉冲击，而是通过比例、材质与光线的反复推敲，建立一种可被日常生活不断使用、磨合与延展的经典秩序。

In private spaces, design also emphasizes layers and growth potential. The master bedroom creates a restrained and peaceful atmosphere with wrought iron bed frames, limestone, and Murano chandeliers; the daughters room responds to childhood imagination with soft pink tones, while also leaving room for future changes. This entire residence does not aim for visual impact; instead, through repeated consideration of proportions, materials, and light, it establishes a classic order that can be continuously used, adapted to, and expanded upon in daily life.
